FUCKING NEW YORK is about fucking New York.
Literally.

FUCKING NEW YORK takes the popular myth — “when you live in New York, you’re in a relationship with New York” — and turns it up to eleven. If your relationship with the city is really that intimate, it asks, then what would sex with the city look like? What would it feel like? How would you fuck New York?

The initial images from the series were released in 2013 and immediately garnered attention from the press including Refinery29, Gothamist, PDN, Animal New York, and many other international media outlets. Within weeks, FUCKING NEW YORK gained a worldwide following. What started as a summer project on the Lower East Side suddenly grew into a life-changing juggernaut spanning four years, bigger and better than I could've ever imagined.

FUCKING NEW YORK brought together New Yorkers of all ages, shapes, sizes, social, and ethnic backgrounds. Those people brought the mix of intense carnality and playful humor I was looking for, and helped breathe life into FUCKING NEW YORK.

In addition to the photographs themselves, the book features two conversations about the book, its inspirations, and the issues it raises. I chose to talk to one woman and one man: artist Molly Crabapple, and writer Sasha Frere-Jones. Finally, more than 2/3 of the photos are previously unreleased and exclusive to the book.

Why the hell would you do a book in 2017?

The internet has made it possible to enjoy many things from our computers and mobile phones; but there are still some things that cannot be replicated on a computer screen. A book, or an art print, resonates with the viewer in a deeper, more personal way. There is a personal investment involved by taking the time to turn the pages of a book and appreciate the tactile nature of the medium; time moves differently as you pause to admire the details in an image that you might have otherwise quickly scrolled past on a screen.

This is also why FUCKING NEW YORK will not be available as a digital download.

FUCKING NEW YORK was conceived as a book from the very beginning. To ensure that the experience of exploring the pages matches the imagery contained inside, the book was printed in Verona, Italy, at the same facility The Metropolitan Museum of Art prints their catalogs, and whose printers are regarded as the best in the world.
